Ezra’s Study

Ezra’s study is one element in our most recent large scale installation. Ezra is the main character in our narrative. He has crash landed in his steampunk airship and is now marooned on an island. He has built his study, where he is contemplative, flipping through old photos of his husband, daughter, Mum, Dad and other key characters in his life story.

He has rigged up an old candle stick telephone that allows participants to call into other portals to learn about time travel, speak with fairies and those located in other dimensions.

Ezra has also built a typewriter that is able to correspond with the dead. He communicates through letters between him and his long lost loved ones. Participants sit and read these letters, diving deeper into the soul of Dr. Marcel.

One wall of the study is adorned with a variety of clocks, all spinning madly at different speeds and directions. These beautiful clock walls bring participants closer to Ezra’s descent into madness. As he spends his days stranded on the island, dreaming of his family and long lost relatives, he loses track of time in this mystical world.

Finally, Ezra has invented The Hate Maker, a flame effect musical instrument controlled from his desk. Participants look out the giant study window while playing The Hate Maker, setting off large fire and sound effects. The Doctor has invented The Hate Maker as his distress signal, hoping that passing boats and airships might hear and one day save him.
